Carnival in Benidorm
The events of the weekend start at 10:30 am along the town centre streets. First the children’s parade will take place and we will be able to get a closer look at the youngest oneâs great costumes as they travel through the âEscuelasâ, âRuzafaâ and âHerrerĂasâ Streets until they arrive at the Plaza de SSMM Reyes de España (the town hall square). There will be a playground installed and bars with popular prices for everyoneâs enjoyment.
At 9:30 p.m. it is time for the adultâs parade. On this occasion, the parade starts on Venus Street and takes the same route as the children’s. This time in the town hall square there is a large tent awaiting us with bars to order food and drink at popular prices and djs from âLos 40 Principalesâ ( a well-known radio station) to keep the party going until dawn.
When the music ends, the celebrating carries on in the usual areas of Benidorm. What areas are we talking about? Do you want to go out in Benidorm but youâre not sure where to go? You can check our blog for the party areas in Benidorm that we recommend you visit.
The Sardine burial in Benidorm
In case you didnât know, in many parts of Spain and Latin America, Ash Wednesday is celebrated with the so-called ” sardine burial” to end the carnival and mark the beginning of Lent. The party consists in a carnival parade in which they perform a parody of the burial of a symbolic figure, usually represented by a giant sardine.
The gathering takes place on the night of the 5th March and the early morning of the 6th. The parades / processions will begin at 10.30pm through the streets of the centre (La Biga, Tomås Ortuño, Escuelas, Ruzafa, Paseo de la Carretera) and ends on Paseo Colon, where the sardine will be burned and there will be a fireworks display.
